When we purchased our condo we used her room as an office/junk room. I painted it the prettiest blue that I found in the "oops" bin at the hardware store. I love the color. It makes me feel calm and thoughtful. When we found out we were having a girl everyone, including Ron, tried to convince me we needed to repaint. I couldn't imagine painting over my favorite little color. I knew I couldn't get it again since it wasn't supposed to be to begin with and I just hoped I could make it into a room that my sweet girl would love.
I started looking for white furniture. I always think white furniture when I think baby. I found a great set at Ikea. Simple, cute and very affordable. My wonderful inlaws had offered to purchase part of her nursery and when they heard what a great deal the set was they just bought the whole thing. That was such a relief.
Then...pink! I found beautiful silk curtains at Target for a steal. We use them straight right now but they are the balloon style if we ever wanted to mix it up a bit. Some pink sheets and a cozy soft bumper and we were in business. It was starting to look very girly.
Next step was some art work. I couldn't find anything I really loved and then realized...I'm a photographer and it was spring. Flowers were in abundance and so I got to work. I looked for tulips, roses, trees in bloom, and simple treasures. I finally settled on a few tulips in pale pink and cherry blossoms. Framed them up in large 20x20 frames, a friend added a crystal chandelier and I felt so great with the outcome.
We have added touches of blue and pink over time and her favorite toys and books. Clothes and blankets but mostly we've left it simple and clean. I love spending time up there. Her window has great afternoon sun and looks out onto nothing but trees in a very crowded area of houses and condos. It's amazing how peaceful it is in her sweet little blue room.
What a beautiful room! I love, love the shade of blue that you used. So sweet and peaceful. It is lovely!!
